An expert in energy policy and investments, Duke Ligon of Oklahoma City is the owner and manager of the Mekusukey Oil Company, LLC. Not long after founding Mekusukey, Duke Ligon left Oklahoma City to join the U.S. Army in a military intelligence role. He received several commendations for his service, including the Bronze Star Medal.
Since the Second World War, the U.S. military has awarded the Bronze Star to Army service members for “brave or praiseworthy achievement or service.” The Bronze Star is one of the highest awards for bravery in military combat, ranking only below the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, and the Medal of Honor.
Service members can receive it for a single act of value or meritorious service or for bravery while engaged in enemy combat. If the enemy is engaged during the meritorious act, the designation of “V” for valor is additionally inscribed on the medal.
